GENEVA, N.Y. - The Johnson & Wales Women's Soccer team fell to the Continentals of Hamilton College on Saturday 3-2 in the first round of the NCAA tournament. JWU was unable to overcome a 3-0 deficit, cutting the lead to one with under eight minutes remaining in regulation.
JWU fell behind in the first two minutes of the game when Rylie Mutton's pass found Cat Gambino, who's shot into the low corner of the net gave Hamilton a 1-0 lead. The Continentals added a second goal ten minutes later, once again through Gambino. She found the back of the net off of a pass from Olivia Zubarik, putting the Wildcats down 2-0.
The Continentals added a third goal three minutes into the first half through Zubarik. After continuing to battle, the Wildcats got on the board with just under 11 minutes left through an own goal by the Continentals. Jordan Restivo (Utica, N.Y.) added a second goal just four minutes later on a low shot into the left corner off of a pass from Olivia Cairrao (Bristol, R.I.) , cutting the lead to one. JWU stayed on the front foot for the remainder of the game, but were unable to find the game tying goal, falling 3-2.
The Wildcats season ends with a 17-4-2 overall record. After going undefeated in a conference play (12-0-1), the Wildcats won three straight games by a score of 3-0 to win the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship.
