Owens Helps R-MC Women’s Soccer Roll past MC

Raleigh, N.C. – Sophomore Olivia Owens (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) netted three first-half goals to lead the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Meredith on Tuesday evening.

How it Happened:

  • R-MC had the first two shots of the game before Owens scored in the sixth minute on an assist by senior Kylie Martino (Centreville, Va./Centreville) as the Yellow Jackets took the early lead. Junior Lauren Ott (Midlothian, Va./James River) added a goal in the 16th minute with freshman Lora Bertram (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) supplying the assist to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage. Owens had goals in the 18th and 23rd minutes, with senior Maddie Bauman (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) assisting on the first, as the Yellow Jacket advantage grew to 4-0. Freshman Riley Russ (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) found the back of the net in the 38th minute as R-MC took a 5-0 lead into intermission. The Yellow Jackets had a 15-2 advantage on shots in the first half, including 8-1 for shots on goal.
  • R-MC dominated the offense in the second half with a 12-1 lead in shots. Sophomore Kristina Pierce (Oak Hill, Va./Westfield) scored the last goal of the match in the 76th minute to make the final score 6-0.

By The Numbers:

  • The Yellow Jackets finished with a 27-3 advantage in shots. Owens and Ott paced the victors with four shots each. All four shots by Owens were on goal.
  • Sophomore Abby Cook (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) had one save as the R-MC defense recorded its second shutout of the season.
  • The five goals by the Yellow Jackets were the most in a match since Oct. 30, 2019, in a 5-0 ODAC win over Eastern Mennonite.

Up Next:

  • Randolph-Macon will have its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 18 with 1 p.m. contest against Greensboro on Nunnally Field. Prior to the match will be the dedication of the Jennifer Boxley Andrews '96 Memorial Press Box. The former Yellow Jacket passed away in 2019 at the age of 44 after a battle with cancer.
