DANBURY, Conn. – Senior Gabriel Gallant buried a free kick into the top left corner just 2:28 into overtime, the first goal of his career, leading Coast Guard to a 3-2 win over host Western Connecticut in the battle of unbeaten teams.
Coast Guard starts the season 4-0 for the first time since 2014. The Bears began the 2014 season with eight straight wins and advanced to the NCAA tournament that season.
It was the Bears second overtime win in the last five days as they beat Stevenson 1-0 on Saturday.
Western Conn. drops to 3-1.
The Bears scored a pair of first half goals in the span of 2:35 as John DiTommaso scored in the 16th minute giving Coast Guard a 1-0 lead before Noah Engstrom's goal less than three minutes later pushed the lead to 2-0.
The Colonials got on the board in the 34th minute on a goal by Lauria St. Lorenzo to close the first half scoring.
Western Connecticut would tie the score on a penalty kick by Matthew Restrepo with 12:15 left in regulation.
Josh Hudson started in goal and allowed one goal and made two saves in the first half for Coast Guard. John Vaaler (3-0) made one save in the second half and picked up his third win of the season.
Western Conn. outshot the Bears 14-9.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they travel to take on archrival Merchant Marine at noon.
