ADA — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team scored two goals in the first five minutes of the game en route to a 6-0 victory over Muskingum on Saturday afternoon at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears (10-1-4 overall, 5-0-2 OAC) have now won four straight games, all of which have been shutouts, as part of a nine-game unbeaten streak.
The Fighting Muskies fall to 2-11-3 overall and 0-7-0 in the OAC.
Sophomore Alyssa Beckett (Monroe) scored a pair of goals to lead ONU on Saturday.
Junior Jill Roberts (Bellbrook/Carroll), sophomore Alexa Clampitt (Sterling Heights, Mich./Utica Academy for International Studies) and freshmen Rileigh Glassburn (Delaware/Olentangy Berlin) and Kiera Kaeser (Ashland) added one goal each.
Those were the first career goals for Glassburn and Kaeser.
Roberts found the back of the net just 1:44 into the game courtesy of an assist from junior Kylie Cabana (Dexter, Mich.).
Cabana also assisted the next goal, finding Beckett for a score 4:42 into the game.
Beckett scored again in the 39th minute via an assist from sophomore Chandler Clark (Lima/Bath) to put the Polar Bears up 3-0.
That marked Beckett's team-high eighth goal of the season.
Northern took a 4-0 lead into halftime thanks to Glassburn's goal in the 44th minute, which was assisted by senior Hailey McGuire (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch).
The Polar Bears entered the break holding a 25-1 edge in shots and 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Northern continued to add to its lead in the second half, getting a goal from Clampitt in the 47th minute and one from Kaeser in the 59th minute with assists from Roberts and sophomore Emma Bowman (Novi, Mich./Northville), respectively.
Bowman now has a team-leading six assists on the season.
Senior goalkeeper Becky Moss (Lebanon/Mount Notre Dame) recorded one save in the game as part of her OAC-leading 10th shutout of the season, which is tied for seventh-best in program history. She also ranks 10th all-time in career shutouts with 10.
ONU out-shot MU 36-2, including 17-1 in shots on goal, in the game and finished with an 11-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears return to action on Wednesday at home against OAC foe Baldwin Wallace at 7 p.m.
