KENYON COLLEGE LORDS
Kenyon College has not had a season this successful since this year’s seniors were merely freshmen in 2010. The Lords enter the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 14-4-3 and went unbeaten in nine North Coast Athletic Conference matches (6-0-3).

Going into the NCAC Championship match, Kenyon had built an unbeaten streak of nine matches and had won or tied 15 of its previous 16 contests. The Lords were beaten by one of the nation’s best, Ohio Wesleyan University, in the conference championship match by a 3-1 count marking the only loss they endured by more than a single goal all season long. It was also the first time they allowed more than one goal since their 3-2 win over rival Denison on Oct. 16.

The Lords have stacked up against multiple nationally-ranked opponents stemming from its own conference schedule. They first hosted then-No. 9 DePauw University and took the Tigers to a nil-nil draw before playing Ohio Wesleyan to a 1-1 draw at their place nearly a month later. Oberlin College may never have been nationally ranked, but the Lords and Yeomen jostled for positioning in the regional rankings for much of the second half of the season. In their two meetings, which came in back-to-back matches, only one goal was scored in 200 minutes of soccer and that went to the Lords in their 1-0 win in the NCAC Semifinal.

The Lords have hung their hat on its defense, which has allowed less than 10 shots to its opponents in four of its last five games, and a well-rounded offensive lineup. Much of Kenyon’s success has derived from freshman forward Tony Amolo, who leads the team with 10 goals. He and Jeremiah Barnes share the team lead with seven assists, which also is good for second in the NCAC. Alistair Flynn (PICTURED RIGHT) was the lone scorer in Kenyon’s loss in the conference championship and is next in line with seven goals on the season. After missing the last three games due to injury, the Lords may return one of its most important midfielders in three-time All-NCAC selection and 2010 Newcomer of the Year, Andrew Parmelee. The Lords have seen 14 different players find the back of the net, making the entire roster a viable threat to score.

From the second game of the season on, freshman goalkeeper Sam Clougher has manned the Kenyon cage and accumulated a 14-3-3 overall record. He has made 49 saves and allowed just 16 goals, good for a 0.83 goals-against average and a .754 save percentage.
