Bears Fall at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.-- Sophomore Evan O'Brien scored the only goal of the game as Wesleyan defeated #23 Coast Guard men's soccer 1-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday night. Coast Guard drops to 8-2-1 on the season, while Wesleyan improves to 5-2-1 overall.

In the eighth minute, freshman Lucas Ruehlemann took a corner kick and found O'Brien to put away his first goal of the season, the eventual game-winner for the Cardinals. Welseyan had a 7-3 edge in corner kicks. 

Both teams had four shots apiece in the first half but Wesleyan took a 9-1 shot advantage in the second half.

Coast Guard junior goalkeeper John Vaaler made six saves in the loss, while Wesleyan junior goalkeeper Liam Devanny made one save in the shutout for the Cardinals.

The Bears are back in action at home on Saturday, October in NEWMAC action when they host Babson at 1 PM.
