OWINGS MILLS, Md.-- Junior Noah Engstrom scored the game-winning goal in overtime in Coast Guard men's soccer's 1-0 victory on the road at Stevenson on Saturday evening. The Bears improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Mustangs drop to 0-2 overall.
In the 93rd minute, during overtime, Coast Guard was awarded a free-kick. Senior Gabriel Gallant sent a long ball to junior John Flood inside the box. Flood headed it to Engstrom to bury the game-winner for the Bears.
In the first half, Coast Guard had a dominating 5-1 shot advantage. In the 26th minute, senior Steven Ferrandino had one of the best opportunities of the night, as he beat the Mustangs goalkeeper, Kristian Slaby but his shot was stopped right before crossing the goal line by a Stevenson defender. Both teams were scoreless heading into the half.
Stevenson held a 6-2 advantage in shots in the second half but remained scoreless, forcing the teams to overtime.
Sophomore goalkeeper Josh Hudson had one save in his collegiate debut shutout for Coast Guard. While Slaby did not record a save in the loss for the Mustangs.
Coast Guard outshot Stevenson overall 8-7 and Stevenson had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bears will finish their weekend trip at Goucher tomorrow September 5 at 2 PM.
