Women's Soccer Heads to Texas For Opening Rounds of NCAA Tournament

CLAREMONT, Ca. – Just two days after claiming the 2021 SCIAC Postseason Tournament Championship, the Pomona-Pitzer women's soccer saw their name announced in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Official Bracket for the fourth time in program history. The Sagehens will be heading to San Antonio, TX to take on Pacific Lutheran on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 1:30 PM (CST). 

Joining the Sagehens and Lutes in San Antonio are the host Trinity Tigers and Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls. 

The Sagehens are making their fourth Tournament appearance after a 2-0 victory over California Lutheran in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament Championship. Pomona-Pitzer has an overall record of 15-1-2 and a conference record of 9-1-2. The Sagehens have outscored their opponents 52-31 this season with Hannah Mandell and Charlotte Tapp both scoring seven goals with Mandell dishing out seven assists. In addition to Mandell and Tapp, 12 other Sagehens have found the back of the net to give Pomona-Pitzer many options on the attacking front. The Sagehen goalkeepers Naomi Meurice and Taylor Kane have shared time between the pipes, averaging 0.54 GAA and 0.22 GAA, respectively. 

Pacific Lutheran earns their bid into the Tournament by way of a 1-0 victory against George Fox, claiming their 5th consecutive NWC Title. The Lutes hold an 18-2 overall record and a 14-2 record in conference play. Pacific Lutheran has outscored their opponents 44-6 with Hannah Cecil leading the attack with seven goals on the season with 13 other players adding goals to the scoresheet. The Sagehens most recent match against the Lutes resulted in a Pomona-Pitzer 1-0 win on September 13th in 2009. 

Hardin-Simmons enters the Tournament after a 3-1 decision in penalty kicks to win their 19th-straight ASC Conference Tournament Championship. The Cowgirls are 14-3-1 overall and hold a 9-1 conference record. Emma Thompson leads their team with eight goals and three assists. 

The host Trinity Tigers are making their way into the Tournament after winning their 24th SCAC Championship after defeating Southwestern University 5-0. The Tigers hold an overall record of 14-2-1 with a 7-1 conference record. Trinity has yet to lose on their home field this season with an 11-0 record in the Paul McGinlay Soccer Field. Overall, the Tigers have outscored opponents 64-37 with Kaity Ward leading the team with 17 goals and 11 assists while Molly Sheridan has 12 goals and nine assists.
