ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Olivia Owens (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) had her third game-winning goal in the past four matches as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team blanked Guilford 2-0 on Senior Day.

How it Happened:

  • Senior Tyria Smalls (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) had a shot on goal less than two minutes into the contest. Owens would score in the 17th minute on an assist by junior Leah Conrad (Bristow, Va./Saint John Paul the Great) to give the Yellow Jackets the early lead. R-MC would have three more shots in the half, but no goal as it took a 1-0 lead at intermission.
  • Smalls and senior Maddie Bauman (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) both had shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the second stanza. Freshman Riley Russ (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) connected for a goal in the 65th minute on an assist by freshman Lora Bertram (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 advantage. R-MC would keep the pressure on, but the score would stay at 2-0 as the final horn sounded.

  • R-MC had a 26-2 advantage in shots, including 11-2 in the first half and 15-0 edge in the second half. Bauman paced the Yellow Jackets with four shots, while Smalls and Bertram both had three shots.
  • The Yellow Jackets had a 14-0 edge in corner kicks, 7-0 in each half.
  • Sophomore Abby Cook (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) had one save in the first half.

  • The Yellow Jackets saluted their four seniors prior to the contest: Bauman, Jules Heuchan (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay), Kylie Martino (Centreville, Va./Centreville) and Smalls.
