The College of Wooster men's soccer team fell 2-1 to the University of Mount Union on Wednesday in its final non-conference game of the season.
Mount Union (7-0-1) used an aggressive attack in the first half to set the tone for the remainder of the game. A cross from Rylan Wikle led to a powerful shot from Ryan Sarkisian to put the Raiders ahead in the 13th minute.
Keeping on the attack, Mount Union positioned themselves into a penalty kick in the 20th minute, and Wikle made it a 2-0 game, which held until halftime.
The Scots came out the aggressive ones in the second half. They got one goal back in the 50th minute as a weak punch from the goalkeeper led to a score from senior Max Hill. It was his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
The goal allowed was Mount Union's first since their season opener (Sept. 1) when they defeated Denison University 3-2.
Wooster kept on the pressure, but Mount Union was able to keep the Scots at bay for the remainder of the game.
Senior Hamilton Schattgen took the loss. He played the first half in goal and made one save. Sophomore Gabriel Thomas saw his first collegiate action in goal, playing the second half and making one save.
Wooster outshot the Raiders 12-10. Mount Union held the 6-1 advantage in the first half, while Wooster outshot the Raiders 11-4 in the second.
Wooster moves to 6-3-1 on the year. They return to North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday with a trip to DePauw University.
