Men's Soccer Battles To Tie At Williams

Williamstown, Mass. - September 6, 2022 - The Springfield College men's soccer program played to a hard-fought draw on the road at Williams tonight in the second contest of the season.

The Pride are now 0-1-1 to start the season, while Williams takes the tie as its first result of 2022. Williams slightly outshot the Pride, 13-11.

In net, Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) was tremendous for the Pride with three timely saves.

Just 2:34 into the contest Ephs had a chance to score off a corner kick, however the header attempt by Nick Boardman connected with the post. Springfield continued to withstand the Ephs' attempts as the hosts' took the games' first five shots with Knibbs coming up with the save at the 18:54 mark. The Pride looked to squeak in a goal before the half with Maitoe Suppasuesanguan (Bangpongpang, Yannawa, Bangkok) delivering a shot on goal at 32:58 and Jack Rosenberg (Simsbury, Conn.) going for attempt at 39:10, yet Ben Diffley saved both for the home team to keep the score locked at 0-0.

Again in the second half, the frame began with a flurry of chances from either team, but neither could capitalize. At 61:05, Cole Merrillo sent a long corner kick that Brady Foehl tracked down and headed over the arm of Knibbs, but was backed up by Rosenberg, who headed out the try at the last moment to preserve the scoreless tie. Niether team recorded a shot on goal until the 81st-minute, where Knibbs picked up the same, then another at 84:29 that Knibbs pounced on after a diving effort. The Pride possessed the ball for the final shot with 88:34 left, but was turned back by Diffley to force the contest to a 0-0 tie.

Springfield returns to Brock-Affleck on Saturday, September 10 for a matchup with Gordon College.
