Bears Fall in PK's in NEWMAC Semifinal

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Coast Guard men's soccer played to a 0-0 tie with MIT in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) semifinal but MIT advances to the NEWMAC championship on penalty kicks 4-3 and will host the Babson on Saturday.

The Bears are 14-4-2 overall and 4-3 in conference play and will await word on a possible at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. MIT improves to 13-3-2 on the season and 5-1-1 in the NEWMAC.

Both teams had several chances throughout regulation and in overtime. Three minutes into the game, the Bears were awarded a penalty kick, but missed and kept the game scoreless. Coast Guard outshot MIT 4-3 in the opening half.

In the 76th minute, MIT almost got on the board as Rami Bikdash fired a shot to the right corner of the Bears goal but sophomore goalkeeper Josh Hudson came up with a diving save to keep the Engineers off the board.

Also in the second half, the Bears had a great opportunity but were called offside as the shot went in. Coast Guard kept the momentum moving in the second half as the Bears had the final three shots in regulation.

Hudson made six saves during the game for Coast Guard, and the Engineers' goalkeeper Paarth Desai made seven.

Both teams had three shots apiece in the two overtime periods and were forced to end the game in penalty kicks (4-3).
