(ASHLAND, Va.) – Lora Bertram (Fr., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) scored twice as she led Randolph-Macon to a shutout victory over visiting Greensboro in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. She scored one in each half as the defense limited the Pride's opportunities to record the clean sheet.
The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 2, Greensboro 0
Venue: Nunnally Field
Records: Randolph-Macon 3-3, Greensboro 2-4
How It Happened
- The first goal came quick as the Yellow Jackets were putting the pressure on the Pride back line. Maddie Bauman (Sr., Smithfield, Va. / Smithfield) fired a shot that went off the woodwork on the right side. The resulting carom landed right in front of the goal for Bertram to easily knock it into the back of the net uncontested in the sixth minute.
- Multiple opportunities followed for the Lemon and Black, but it wasn't until the 81st when Olivia Owens (So., Salisbury, Md. / James M. Bennett) dribbled along the end line near the left post before dishing it off to Bertram for her second of the day.
Inside The Numbers
- Thanks to a strong back line, Zoe Long (So., Midlothian, Va. / Midlothian) wasn't called upon too much, but she did make the only save on Greensboro's lone shot on goal. Abby Cook (So., Glen Allen, Va. / Glen Allen) played the second half for the combined shutout.
- The Jackets outshot the Pride 15-5 overall in the game, including an 11-2 mark in the first half.
- Corner kicks also favored RMC as they took six overall compared to Greensboro's two.
- Bertram's goals were her second and third in the season. Her first also came in a shutout in Randolph-Macon's first win of the season.
