Men’s Soccer: Macalester Suffers Defeat Against University of Wisconsin-Whitewater

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team played its twelfth game of the 2021 fall campaign, hosting the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks. The game was a physical one, and despite their fight, the Scots fell 3-0. The Scots' record is now 6-6 (3-2 MIAC).

The Scots looked to attack early with a shot from first year, Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy), that was saved by the Warhawks goalkeeper in the sixth minute. However, the Warhawks took the lead in the 19th minute. Macalester continued to press with shots from juniors Milosz Fernandez-Kepka (Las Vegas, NV/Indiana University HS) and Silas Southworth (Lancaster, NH, White Mountains Regional) that forced the Warhawks' keeper to make saves. Then in the 39th minute, the Warhawks put another ball in, and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Scots were not discouraged and continued to battle the second half. Sophomore Jimmy Mroz (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa East) and Haenicke led the team in the second half with two shots each. First year goalkeeper, Sam Price (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) made four saves on the afternoon, and held a strong presence in the net. Yet the Warhawks were able to squeak another one by in the 78th minute to put them up 3-0.

Despite the physical battle and drive from the Scots, they could not overtake the Warhawks' lead. Macalester's next game is Wednesday, Oct. 13, where they will host College of St. Scholastica at 7:30 p.m. for a conference matchup.
