The Goucher women's soccer team's defense put up a fierce fight this afternoon, but was taken down by Franklin & Marshall, 4-0 in their home opener.
The Diplomats dominated possession for most of the game, giving the Gophers' defense a tough battle throughout. The defense fell short in the first half; all four goals of the game were scored in the first 45 minutes.
The Gophers stepped on the pitch in the second half with a rejuvenated spirit and were able to completely shut down the Diplomats offense. Freshman Jenna Abaza (Doylestown, PA/CB West) was a force in the goal, collecting 9 saves in the last 45 minutes. Despite the team's stellar second-half effort, the Gophers offense could not follow through and the Diplomats kept their first-half lead for the win.
The loss against Franklin & Marshall brings the Goucher women's soccer team to 0-2 on the season. Their next competition is set for home on Monday night against Hood College; game time is 7PM.
