LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Senior Jimmy Walkinshaw (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) scored twice for the Ohio Northern men's soccer team to lead it to a 2-2 draw after two periods of overtime Friday evening at Farwell Field.
Both teams' records now stand at 0-0-1.
Walkinshaw opened the scoring in the 15th minute on a feed from classmate Noah Bachwitz (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North).
Lake Forest was able to respond with a goal six minutes later to knot the game at 1-1.
Oho Northern outshot LFC 7-2 in the first half.
In the 70th minute, Walkinshaw put the Polar Bears on top 2-1 off an assist by junior Mitch Colvin (Tipp City/Tippecanoe).
A penalty kick in the 85th for the Foresters tied the game at 2-2.
Bachwitz nearly ended the match in the 112nd minute, but his shot clanked off the left post.
Senior Tim Hoffman (Strongsville) and junior Beelal Hasan (Westerville/Thomas) each produced shots on-target in overtime.
Sophomore goalkeeper John Lombardo (Solon) recorded five saves while the Foresters held 7-6 edge in shots on goal.
Ohio Northern held a 22-15 shot attempts advantage. ONU generated 11 corner kicks while LFC had six.
Northern returns to the field against North Central (Ill.) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. CDT.
