Men's Soccer Comes Up Short Against Endicott
Beverly, Mass. - October 4, 2022 - The Springfield College men's soccer program loses, 2-1, to Endicott College on Tuesday night in non-conference action.
Springfield rests at 2-6-2 on the season, while the Gulls boast a 7-3-2 overall record. The contest proved to be a tight match statistically as the Gulls narrowly outshot the Pride, 13-12, and had six corners.
Both Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) and Kyle Rosa turned away two shots for their respective squads in the match.
The Pride fended off an early attack from the Gulls as the hosts' tallied four corner kick opportunities, but came up short on all of them. At 11:04, Endicott went up 1-0 as Joe Mepham carried to the right side for the first score of the game. Springfield produced six shots in the quarter with a flurry of chances coming in the final minutes of the quarter with the best marker being a Parker Thornton (Malden, Mass.) headef try that ended up getting blocked by the Endicott defense.
The Pride was in pursuit of the tie in the second half as the Pride worked through the defense for shooting chances. In the 41st-minute, the Gulls looked to put in its second goal of the game in transition, yet Chayne Bruneau (Glastonbury, Conn.) sprinted for the tackle that disrupted the Endicott threat. The Gulls did receive added boost late in the 86th minute from a Tiago Frazao strike that put the hosts' ahead 2-0. Facing a two-goal deficit, Springfield hustled to put on shots, but ran out of time to cut into the lead.
Springfield will return to Brock-Affleck on Saturday to play Wheaton at 3:00.
