UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The College of Wooster men's soccer team had John Carroll University on the ropes but could not finish the Blue Streaks off in a 2-1 overtime loss on Saturday.
Both teams went scoreless into halftime until John Carroll's Daniel Kalic led a pass 20 yards that put Brenden Swann right in front of the goal for the score in the 70th minute.
With time winding down Wooster finally got on the scoreboard. Senior Max Hill received a cross from senior BJ Tally and scored on a header in the 88th minute to force the game into overtime.
However, John Carroll managed to go back on top in the first overtime. The Blue Streaks took possession after a Wooster throw in. James Hoover crossed a pass from the far-right side and a header from Benjamin Hryszko ended the game in the 95th minute.
John Carroll, ranked 20th in the preseason poll, got back in the win column after losing in its last game out, which snapped a 19 regular season match unbeaten streak. They are now 2-1-1.
Jason Prather took the loss in net after making five saves.
Both teams took 12 shots. Wooster had seven corner kicks to John Carroll's four.
Wooster moves to 3-2 on the year. They return home Tuesday to take on Heidelberg University.
