R-MC Women’s Soccer Edged at JHU

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Blue Jays scored in the 24th minute and made it stand up as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team fell 1-0 to open the 2021 season at Johns Hopkins in the first round of the Johns Hopkins Invitational.

The Basics:

Records: R-MC 0-1, JHU 1-0

How it Happened:

  • After JHU had the first shot of the game in the 10th minute, junior Gracie Tritt (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) had R-MC's initial shot in the 21st minute. The Blue Jays would tally their goal three minutes later. Freshman Riley Russ (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) added a shot for the Yellow Jackets in the 28th minute.
  • Freshman Sammie Hoefs (New Market, Md./Linganore) had a shot on goal two minutes into the second stanza for R-MC, its lone shot of the second half.

By The Numbers:

  • Sophomore Abby Cook (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) had two saves in the first half. Sophomore Zoe Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) recorded three saves in the second half.
  • JHU had 20 shots, but the R-MC defense allowed just one goal.

  • Randolph-Macon will face Susquehanna on Sunday, Sept. 4 in Baltimore on the second and final day of the Johns Hopkins Invitational.
