Springfield, Mass. - October 26, 2021 - The Springfield College men's soccer program closed out non-conference play with a 7-1 victory over Castleton on Tuesday night at Brock-Affleck Field.

Springfield holds an overall record of 10-5 as Castleton drops to 4-12. Springfield put 15 shots on goal in the contest and were awarded 11 corner kicks. The victory marks the third time this season Springfield has scored seven or more goals in a contest.

In the fourth-minute of the first half, Andrew Ma (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) crossed into Sebastian Correia (West Warwick, R.I.), who snuck in a header goal to give Springfield an early 1-0 lead. The Pride would get a fantastic chance to go up 2-0 as Thomas Sojka (Bellingham, Mass.) loaded up from outside the box in the 20th-minute, however, connected with the crossbar keeping the lead at 1-0. The Spartans were able to even the game at 1-1 with 31:29 on the clock, after Toby Ritzkowski punched in a goal past the stretched hand of Knibbs. Springfield would take a 2-1 lead in the 42nd-minute as Aiden Casinghino (Brimfield, Mass.) powered in a shot from outside the box after receiving a touch pass from Koul Majok (Lynn, Mass.). With 30 seconds remaining in the half, Ian Macala (Vernon, Conn.) pressed from the right and bulleted a shot that was blocked by Maul, but landed at the foot of Matthew Mela (Natick, Mass.) and was redirected in for the 3-1 lead entering the half.

Springfield continued to create scoring opportunities in the second the half as Jack Rosenberg (Simsbury, Conn.) swung the ball to Michael Tocci (Plymouth, Mass.) for a lofting shot that dropped in for the fourth goal of the game and elevated the Pride lead to 4-1. The Pride would distance itself from the Spartans as Casinghino would speed into the box and knock in the goal, which granted the Pride a 5-1 lead in the 73rd-minut.  Casinghino would complete the hat trick on the evening with a tap in goal at 81:36 as Springfield would take a 6-1 lead. With 2:46 remaining in the match, Majok played a pass to a striding Skylar Shum (Hong Kong, Sha Tin) for the final goal of the game ensuing the 7-1 victory for Springfield.

Springfield will host No. 21 Babson College on Saturday at 12 pm in their final regular season contest of the season.
