2013 All-Tournament Teams
|
| Messiah's Jack Thompson and Rutgers-Camden's Taylor McGrory received the top men's awards; top women's honors went to William Smith's Krista Longo and Olivia Zitoli. |
Following the men's and women's finals on Saturday, the All-Tournament teams were announced along with the Most Outstanding Offensive and Defensive Players.
For being a constant threat down the left flank and terrorizing defenders all tournament long, Messiah's Jack Thompson was honored as the men's Most Outstanding Offensive Player. Whether cutting inside for a shot, sending in dangerous crosses, or beating defenders one-on-one before laying off to a teammate, the junior's presence on the field was felt as much as anyones.
Rutgers-Camden's Taylor McGrory was named the men's Most Outstanding Defensive Player as much for his defense as his offense. The senior defender contributed to a backline that held the high-scoring offenses of York, Montclair St., Loras, and Messiah to just a single regulation time goal each, what was most attention-getting was his game-tying goals to equalize and force overtime in the both Final Four games. The complete men's team can be found below.
William Smith's Krista Longo garnered the women's Most Outstanding Offensive Player for making sure the Heron's stellar defensive efforts did not go to waste when it mattered most. The junior forward scored the lone goal in their semifinal win over Captial and the insurance goal in their 2-0 blanking of Trinity (Tx.) in the final to help bring the championship back to William Smith 25 years after their only other national title. The women's Most Outstanding Defensive Player recognition was bestowed upon her teammate, Olivia Zitoli. The senior defender led a back line that didn't allow a single goal in their six tournament victories, including wins over the nation's 4th-, 9th-, and 11th-ranked teams, and in doing so extended the team's shutout streak to sixteen, the third longest in women's Division III history. The complete women's team can be found below.
