2022 NCAA Tournament Field Factoids

As we await the start of the 2022 NCAA Division III men's and women's championship tournament, let's take a look at the tournament field.

PART 1 - THE PARTICIPANTS

Who's Back from Last Year's (2021) Tournament

MEN:  31 of last year's 64 participants (twelve Sweet 16 teams, seven Elite 8 teams, three Final Four teams)

WOMEN:  34 of last year's 64 participants (fourteen Sweet 16 teams, six Elite 8 teams, three Final Four teams)

First Ever Tournament Appearance

MEN (7):  Birmingham-Southern, Brevard, Franciscan, Marymount, St. Joseph (Conn.), St. Thomas (Texas) (by AQ berth) and UW-Eau Claire (by Pool B at-large berth)
