Aurora hires North Central assistant
The Aurora athletic department is proud to announce the hiring of
Amir St. Clair as head coach of the AU men's soccer program.
“We are very excited to have Amir become a part of our program and university. He is a wonderful young coach and will have an immediate impact on our men’s soccer program,” said athletic director Mark Walsh. “Amir’s high energy, enthusiasm and very strong Division III philosophy regarding the student-athlete experience will lead to the continued success of the program.”
St. Clair becomes the program's 13th head coach, replacing Pete Watkins, who stepped down after eight years at the helm, where he compiled a 101-48-19 mark. St. Clair is a 2008 graduate of St. Norbert with a pair of bachelor degrees in religious studies and philosophy; he is currently pursuing a master’s degree in leadership studies – sports leadership from North Central (Ill.).
St. Clair comes to the Spartan men’s soccer helm after serving as an assistant coach at North Central for the past two seasons.
“I would like to thank the administration for the opportunity to be the head men's soccer coach at Aurora University. I believe I have the support, tools and players to be successful and build on the foundation in place within the program. As I take this leadership role, I plan to recruit outstanding student-athletes who will represent the university both academically and athletically,” said St. Clair.
Collegiately, St. Clair was a member of the Green Knights from 2004-08, concluding his career as a four-time Midwest Conference champion and a three-time Midwest Conference tournament champion. As a defender, he was a three-time captain, two time All-Midwest Conference selection in 2006 and 2007, All-Wisconsin in 2007, NSCAA All-Region second-team in 2007, CoSIDA All-District in 2005 and 2006 and Second Team CoSIDA All-American in 2007.
The men’s soccer team finished the 2010 season with a 13-7-1 overall record, including a 10-1 mark within the Northern Athletics Conference.
