Ramapo names new women's coach
Ramapo has named Matt Higgins the fifth
women's soccer coach in school history. Higgins taks over the
program after former head coach Arnie Ramirez stepped down last
spring after a 12 year career at Ramapo.
The Roadrunners went 6-12 last season, 1-8 in the NJAC. Ramirez was 89-114-17 in 12 seasons, but just 19-77-9 in conference play.
Higgins grew up in England, having played under the professional
soccer ladder for five years beginning at the age of 16. He joined
the professional club Macclesfield Town F.C., and has played with
five professional and semiprofessional clubs during his career. He
runs the the English Pro Soccer and F.C. Jersey girls' soccer
academies.
Assistant Coach Jennifer Perna joins Higgins'
staff this fall. Perna has volunteered her time developing youth
soccer programs in Rockaway, N.J. and Denville, N.J. She has spent
her time coaching youth soccer for the past 10 years. Currently she
is the head coach of the U11 Morris County traveling team in, as
she and her coaching staff have brought their squad from flight 4
to flight 1 in two years.
