St. Mary's coach moves to Bowdoin

Bowdoin athletic director Jeff Ward has announced the hiring of
Brianne Weaver as head coach of the Bowdoin women's soccer
program.
Weaver comes to Bowdoin from St. Mary's (Md.), from which she
graduated in 2000 and where she held the head coaching position for
the past six seasons.
"It is an honor to be selected as the next women's soccer coach
at Bowdoin," said Weaver. "The opportunity to contribute to the
educational experience of Bowdoin's student-athletes is a great
privilege, and I look forward to serving as a mentor to these
accomplished young women as we strive for excellence on and off of
the field. My family and I are excited about joining the Bowdoin
community."
Weaver led St. Mary's to three Capital Athletic Conference
tournament finals (2006, 2008, and 2011) in six seasons at the helm
of the Seahawks, collecting the school's first-ever CAC
championship crown in 2008 and earning CAC Coach of the Year honors
that same year.
In 2008, Weaver was named the National Soccer Coaches Association
of America Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year after helping the
Seahawks achieve their first-ever Division III NCAA
Tournament berth.
She mentored three all-region selections, two CAC Players of the
Year, two conference Rookies of the Year, and 15 Seahawks to 28
All-CAC awards, including 13 first-team honors. Weaver's
squads have also been positive stewards of the game on and off the
field, receiving five NSCAA Team Ethics Awards (two Gold and three
Silver) over the last five seasons and four NSCAA Team Academic
Awards. St. Mary's posted a six-year record of 48-45-13 (26-15-6
CAC).
St. Mary's athletic director Scott Devine stated, "I know I speak for our entire staff, the women's soccer program, and for so many at the college when I say that Bri is going to be sorely missed. She has been an outstanding coach, a talented administrator, a great role model for our student-athletes, and a true pleasure to work with. This is definitely a case of Bowdoin's gain (being) our loss."
Weaver also served as the department's senior woman
administrator and as the liaison between athletics and the office
of advancement. She spearheaded the formation of the Seahawk
Alliance, the department's booster organization, and was the
athletic representative at the newly formed staff senate.
Weaver assumes the post formerly held by Maren Rojas, who stepped
down in February. The Polar Bears posted a 6-6-3 record last fall,
with five of their six setbacks coming by a single goal.
"We are thrilled to have Brianne joining our community," said
Ward. "The pool of candidates was outstanding, but when we met Bri
in person it was clear that she's a great coach for Bowdoin. She's
bright, charming and a student of soccer."
