Saturday wrap: No. 3 Wash U women hold off No. 14 Carnegie Mellon

Saturday ended with more predictable results than in previous weeks, but there were yet a few upsets and surprises that will impact the Top 25 and the conference races.
The spotlight for the men was on top-ranked Ohio Wesleyan traveling to No. 5 DePauw for a match that would be both a test for the Bishop's undefeated record and for DePauw's Top 5 ranking. At the end of 90 minutes, the Bishops prevailed 3-1 in a well fought match. The Tigers mark their first loss of the season and fall to 11-1-1, while the Bishops improve to 14-0-0.
No. 3 Rutgers-Camden battled No. 9 Montclair State to a scoreless draw, and Messiah upheld their No. 4 ranking with a 3-nil defeat of Elizabethtown. In front of a crowd of 2,122, Messiah scored on three of their 14 shots on goal. The win moves the Falcons to 12-1 on the year.
Brooklyn College cruised past John Jay 5-0 on senior Dmitry Prokofyev's hat trick, while Worcester State downed Mass Maritime 4-1 on a pair goals and an assist from senior Brendan Whitson.
No. 6 Amherst would need three second half goals to fend off Colby, winning 3-1, remaining on top of the NESCAC at 6-0-2, 8-0-2 overall. Freshman Christopher Martin scored in the 39’ and 47’ for his third and fourth goals of the year.

On their home pitch, No. 7 Brandeis was upset by No. 24 Rochester 3-2 in UAA play. Despite the Judges scoring first in the 56’, Rochester would get back in the match just minutes later in the 62’ on a goal from sophomore Sean Daly. The Yellowjackets would find the winner in the 78’, on a goal by freshman Jeff Greblick. The loss drops Brandeis to 10-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the UAA.
The No. 8 Ducks of Stevens Institute kept their conference record in perfection with a 3-nil victory over Utica. Sophomore Carson Pryor’s two goals in the first half propelled Stevens to a comfortable lead, one which they would insure with a goal in the 64’ by freshman Chris Renna.
No. 16 Brockport State was edged by Geneseo State 2-1, losing their first SUNYAC match of the season, and No. 21 Wheaton shifted two suburbs East to CCIW foe Elmhurst and played to a scoreless draw. Wheaton drops to second place in the conference at 2-0-1, 9-3-1 overall.
In women's action, top-ranked Johns Hopkins couldn't get past Haverford, settling for a 2-2 draw, and No. 3 Washington University bested No. 12 Carnegie Mellon 2-1. No. 5 William Smith edged Union 1-0, and remains tied for the top spot in the Liberty League at 4-0-0, 10-1-0 overall.
Scranton won their 11th straight match, coming from behind to defeat Ursinus 3-2. Senior Samantha Russo scored her 5th game winner of the season, and 15th of her career.
No. 10 Lynchburg edged Bridgewater 1-0 to improve to 7-0 in the ODAC and 13-1 overall, and in the NESCAC, No. 22 Bowdoin were 3-1 winners over Hamilton, and first place Middlebury improved to 5-1, 7-1-2 with a 2-0 shutout of Trinity.
