| Sophomore Nicholas Laurent scored in the final seconds of play for Plattsburgh State |
Late game heroics propelled the 20th-ranked Plattsburgh State men's soccer team past No. 14 Oneonta State in a 1-0 decision on Saturday.
Cardinal forward Nicholas Laurent netted the game winning goal in the 90th minute from teammate Jonathan Gamboa.
Gamboa bought the ball up the sideline and sent a nice cross in front of the Red Dragon net. The ball passed over a cluster of defenders and found Laurent all alone to send a volley straight over Oneonta goalie Vincent Pellegrino.
Laurent currently ranks second in scoring for the Cardinals with six goals this season. Second only to Alexis Archival who enjoyed a nice five goal game on Friday against New Paltz.
It was a battle of the top two teams in the SUNYAC as Oneonta held the top position, with the Cardinals in second prior to game time.
Cardinal goalie Mitchell Jordon made seven stops in net including a huge save on a penalty kick in the 88th minute which sparked the counter attack that led to Laurent's game winner.
The Red Dragons led in shots 14-6 and corner kicks 8-4 during the SUNYAC tilt.
Plattsburgh State improves to 11-1-2 on the season while SUNY Oneonta drops to 9-3-1.
