FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's soccer team (2-1) finished one goal shy of tying the program's single-game record in a 9-0 rout of Valley Forge Christian College (0-3) in a nonconference game Tuesday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.

After misfiring on their first 12 shots of the contest, the Blazers kicked the offense into high gear in the 18th minute. Junior Chris Mendez got the hosts on the board when he poked in a rebound that bounced off the hands of Patriot keeper Mark Bowman. Mendez struck again less than a minute later when he made a nice move on Bowman and tucked the ball in the back of the net for a quick 2-0 Hood lead.

The Blazers would pocket four more scores in the first half, including two by sophomore Matt Sharp and one apiece by first-year Eric Diehl and senior Adam Peterson.

After outshooting the Patriots, 30-0, in the first 45 minutes, the Blazers tacked on three more goals on just eight total attempts in the second stanza. First-years Logan Sonnie and David Langan connected on their first collegiate goals while Mendez completed his first career hat trick off a feed from Peterson in the 77th minute.

Sophomore Jaime Ramirez contributed a pair of assists while junior Doug Raftery also picked up a helper in the lopsided triumph.

The Patriots were unable to fire off a shot on the afternoon and remain winless on the season. Sophomore Will Lane patrolled the net but was not tested in the contest.

The Blazers continue their five-game homestand Sunday hosting Juniata College at 1 p.m.
