Late Goal Lifts Devils Past Denison in Double-Overtime

(Granville, Ohio) - First-year midfielder Javier Mena (San Salvador, El Salvador) converted a penalty kick with just 1:14 remaining in the second overtime to lead the Dickinson College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win at Denison University on Saturday.

The game was as close on paper as the score would indicate with the Devils holding a 17-16 advantage in shots while Denison had the edge in corners, 7-6.

 

Sophomore goaltender Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) earned the shutout in the Devils' season opener, making just one save.

 

Matt Wagner stopped three shots in goal for Denison, who falls to 0-2 on year.

 

The Red Devils travel to Kenyon College on Sunday to face the Lords at 3:30 pm.
