Stars Release 2011 Men's Soccer Schedule

More news about: Dominican men's team

The Dominican University men's soccer team released the program's schedule for the 2011 season, with the season opener scheduled for September 1, when the Stars play host to the University of Chicago Maroons.

Following the Central Region clash with the Maroons, the Stars will play the first of five non-conference matches against 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship teams with a road match against the North Park University Vikings before hosting back-to-back home games against Calvin College and Hope College of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. All three opponents qualified for last year's national tournament with the Calvin College Knights ending the Stars' season for the second straight season.

Dominican will then open their Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) title defense, kicking off the NAC season against the Edgewood College Eagles.  The Stars' tough non-conference schedule continues with regional battles against Wheaton College and the Washington University Bears (Mo.), who made their 19th overall appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships in 2010.

After a string of four straight NAC matches against Wisconsin Lutheran, Marian, Benedictine and Lakeland, the Stars close out the non-conference portion of the 2011 campaign against the Loras College Duhawks on the Stars' West Campus Field. The Duhawks, who made their sixth straight NCAA appearance last season, handed the Stars their only loss in 2010, a 2-nil defeat for Dominican in Dubuque, Iowa.

Dominican then closes out 2011 NAC play with three of the conference's top four teams over the Stars' final five games of the regular season, in Aurora, Concordia Wisconsin and MSOE.
