Baumann 15th on NCAA's all-time winningest coaches list

More news about: Dominican men's team

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- In the ranks of the NCAA's all-time winningest men's soccer coaches, Dominican University's Erick Baumann has moved to 15th all-time and seventh of all active coaches as reported in the NCAA's 2011 coaching records. On a list that contains coaches from all divisions, Baumann's .795 (274-63-21) win percentage sprawls over 16 seasons at the helm of the Stars' men's soccer program, and is fourth-best in Division III.

His collegiate coaching career is highlighted by two seasons in which he led the Stars to a record of .900 or better ('99 & '10), and seven seasons in which the club finished above .800 ('97, '01, '05-'06, '08-'09). Not once has a Dominican team finished below .500 with Baumann as head coach. Additionally, his 16 teams have logged 17.125 wins per season, which nearly mirrors Ohio Wesleyan's Jay Martin's, the Division III career wins leader, 17.206 wins per season.

During his reign as the Stars' head men's soccer coach, Baumann has led his teams to nine NCAA Division III Championship appearances ('02-'11), three Elite Eight appearances ('03, '06, '09), and one trip to the Final Four ('09). The current streak of nine consecutive NCAA appearances is the second-longest active streak in Division III.

Baumann's efforts and accomplishments have helped to put Dominican University on the map, and are recognized by the university. "Erick has developed a team with power and pride that has elevated the university's athletic reputation while raising student athletes' personal expectations and academic GPAs. He is an exceptional coach, an extraordinary leader and one of the most honorable and ethical men I have had the privilege of knowing," says Dean of Students Trudi Goggin.

Streaks, records, and percentages aside, Baumann and his No. 23-ranked squad are back to business, as pre-season practices are underway on the newly-renovated West Campus Field. The team will open its 2011 campaign on its home turf Thursday, September 1, against the University of Chicago. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
