Inclement Weather Postpones Eureka Men’s Soccer Opener
EUREKA, Ill. -- The Eureka College men's soccer team's season-opening match scheduled for Saturday afternoon against Wisconsin Lutheran at Traister Field has been postponed because of lightning and heavy rains. No makeup date for the match has been announced as of Saturday.
The two squads played into the 25th minute before referee Jim Mitchell pulled both squads off the pitch because of lightning in the area. After a delay of more than two hours that included heavy rainfall and more dangerous lightning, both head coaches and the officiating crew agreed to call off the contest.
The Red Devils will try again to open their 2011 season on Sunday when they travel to Franklin for a 3 p.m. non-conference kickoff against the Grizzlies in Franklin, Ind.
