The Yellowjacket men's soccer team continued its road swing to open the 2011 season on Friday, September 9, in a battle of NCAA Division III ranked teams.  In Collegeville, Minn. to take on St. John's University, ranked #5 in the NCAA Division III North Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the #9 Yellowjackets looked to stretch their season-opening winning streak to three games, but the Johnnies had other ideas.

The Johnnies shut down the Yellowjacket offense, holding them to just 11 shots and scored a goal in the 13th minute en route to a 2-0 victory.

Ian Scudder scored his second goal of the season for the Johnnies, flying past the Yellowjacket defense and putting in a shot off the far post to make it 1-0.  The score stayed that way well into the match, with the Johnnies making it 2-0 with just five minutes to play.  Elliot Olson lobbed a pass over the Yellowjacket defense and sent Michael Coborn in on the breakaway where he scored his fifth goal of the year and provided the Johnnies with the winning margin.

The Johnnies outshot the Yellowjackets 12-11 in the contest.  Dan Warnke (Burnsville, Minn.) led the Yellowjackets with four shots.

Matt Elder (New Hope, Minn.) made his second consecutive start for the Yellowjackets, making three saves in the match and watching his record fall to 1-1 on the year.

The Yellowjackets (2-1, 0-0 WIAC) remain on the road where they will take on the University of Minnesota-Morris at Cougar Field on Saturday, September 10.  Game time is 3:00 p.m.
