Brian Duffy Scores in Overtime for Brockport
Junior Brian Duffy (Hilton, NY/Hilton) headed a ball pas the Stevens Tech. goalie with six minutes remaining in the second overtime period to lead The College at Brockport Men's Soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 victory late Friday night at Stevens in Hoboken, NJ.
Freshman Max Egan (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) redirected a ball into the box with a header and Duffy then headed the ball just over the goalie's hands for the game-winning goal.
Stevens (1-2) took a 1-0 lead late in the first half on a deflected shot from just outside the 18-yard box and held the slim lead until late in the second half. With less than 15 minutes to play in regulation time, Jeff Wild (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Bobby Ross (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) converted one of the few Brockport (3-1) opportunities in the half to give to tie the score. Wild took a pass at the top of the 18-yard box and fed a quick pass to the right side of the goal to Ross who redirected the ball into the far corner of the goal for the equalizer.
Stevens had controlled the play for much of the game with a 21-6 advantage in shots but senior Kyle Sauln (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) came up with eight saves to give the Golden Eagles the chance to win.
Brockport will play Kean University at 5 pm Saturday in the second day of action at the Stevens Cup Challenge.
