Kingsmen Defeated in Overtime, 2-1
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Competing against the elements and an undefeated Gustavus Adolphus squad in a neutral site soccer match, Cal Lutheran ended its stay in Santa Cruz on an unfortunate note after suffering a 2-1 overtime defeat Sunday afternoon.
Box Score: GAC 2, CLU 1 - F/OT
With the wind wreaking havoc for both sides throughout the entire game, Gustavus Adolphus was the first to take the lead, scoring the game's first goal in the fifth minute of action.
The score remained 1-0 until the 67th minute when junior midfielder Danny Kuntz found the back of the net and earned his first career goal as a Kingsmen, ultimately forcing both teams to compete in the first overtime game of their respective seasons.
Unfortunately for CLU, Gustavus Adolphus ended the match midway through the first overtime period, netting the golden goal in the 96th minute of play.
Cal Lutheran (0-3) will return to the pitch at Mt. Clef Stadium this Wednesday, September 14 to begin its SCIAC schedule against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (2-1). Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
