Saints Remain Undefeated With 7-0 Shutout Win at Rival MSJ

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) - The Thomas More College men's soccer team remained undefeated as it defeated across-the-river rival, the College of Mount St. Joseph, 7-0, tonight (Monday, September 12, 2011) in a non-conference match at Schueler Field in Cincinnati, Ohio.

With the win, the Saints improve to 4-0 on the season and with the loss, the Lions fall to 2-3.

Thomas More took an early, 1-0, lead when freshman forward Kyle Troutman (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) scored unassisted at the 10-56 mark.  The Saints increased the lead to 2-0 at the 13:51 mark when junior midfielder Brad Baumer (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) scored unassisted.  Senior midfielder Alex Bertke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) scored at the 17:26 mark off a cross from senior defender Keith Kreidenweis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) to give the Saints a 3-0 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, the Saints extended the lead to 4-0 when Baumer scored his second unassisted goal of the game at the 51:11 mark.  Senior forward Ricky Barria (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) gave the Saints a 6-0 lead when he scored unassisted at the 60:49 mark.  Freshman midfielder Christopher Lehan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) scored at the 70:05 mark to increase the lead to 6-0.  Junior Nathan Hudson (Milford, Ohio/Milford) scored at the 88:29 mark for the final score of 7-0..

Senior Zack Lawson (Frankfort, Ky./Frankfort) played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves to remain undefeated 4-0.

Thomas More out-shot the Lions, 20-6, including 10-2 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 8-3.

The Saints return to action on Friday (September 16) when they host Campbellsville University at 5 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field.
