Eureka's Cody Halstead Named SLIAC Player of the Week

More news about: Eureka men's team

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Eureka College senior forward Cody Halstead (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods H.S./Illinois Central) has been picked as the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office late Monday night.  Halstead scored in both of Eureka's non-conference matches last week.

Halstead delivered the game-winning goal for the Red Devils in the 81st minute of Eureka's 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Knox last Wednesday at Traister Field.  He followed that effort by scoring in the 49th minute at Rockford on Saturday, the Red Devils' only goal of the match.

In 23 matches in a Eureka uniform since transferring from Illinois Central in 2009, Halstead has scored 12 goals to go along with seven assists.  He needs two more goals to move into a third-place tie on the all-time Eureka list with Serkan Bakirdan (2009) and five more goals to tie David Crady (2008-10) for second place on the all-time list.  His career assist total currently ranks tied for fifth at Eureka with David Doubet (2008).

The Player of the Week award from the SLIAC is the second of Halstead's career.  He previously earned the award from the league on Sept. 8, 2010.

Halstead and the Red Devils will continue non-conference play Wednesday night when they travel to Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member Dubuque for a 7 p.m. kickoff.  The match marks Eureka's first all-time meeting with the Spartans.
