Bryant Lifts Ohio Wesleyan Over Otterbein
Senior forward Tyler Bryant scored the game's only goal to lift 13th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan over Otterbein in non-conference play on Wednesday in Westerville.
Ohio Wesleyan enjoyed the edge in play throughout the first half, outshooting Otterbein, 15-3, and keeping Cardinal keeper Kyle Ripma busy, forcing him to make 9 saves in the first half alone.
Ripma also received some help from the goalkeeper's best friends, as Ohio Wesleyan had one shot by sophomore midfielder Matt Shadoan hit the post and another by senior forward Travis Wall clang off the crossbar.
The Bishops took the lead for good when sophomore forward Joe Beshara fed the ball through the middle of the box to Bryant, who scored with just over 6 minutes left in the period.
Ohio Wesleyan's defense took over from there, allowing the Cardinals only 4 shots during the second half, with none of those on goal.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Otterbein, 22-7. Junior Paul Hendricks had 2 saves in posting the shutout in the Ohio Wesleyan goal. Ripma finished with 13 saves in the Cardinal goal.
