Men’s Soccer: Cadets end skid, down Anna Maria 3-1

PAXTON, Mass. – The Norwich men's soccer team ended its four-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Anna Maria on Saturday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Sophomore midfielder Eric Weir tallied his second goal of the season in the 24th minute when he headed home a crossing pass from senior team captain Ryan Robertson to give Norwich a 1-0 lead.

Anna Maria came back to tie the game in the 58th minute when Bryan Blomgren converted on a penalty kick after a AMCAT player was taken down in the penalty area.

However, freshman Derek Morin gave the Cadets the lead right back less than 1:30 later when he buried a long cross off a corner kick from Joe Young.

Junior Garrett Shufelt provided an insurance tally in the 78th minute with his team-leading fourth goal of the season by putting home a rebound off an initial shot by Weir.

Sophomore Alex Toomey picked up the win in net for the Cadets recording two saves. Blomgren made 11 stops for Anna Maria and was saddled with the loss.

he Cadets (2-5-0, 1-1-0 GNAC) will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday when they travel to Green Mountain for a 4 p.m. non-conference matchup.
