Marymount Men’s Soccer Ties Defending Champs to Open CAC Slate
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's soccer team opened its Capital Athletic Conference schedule with a 1-1 draw against two-time defending league champions York (Pa.) on Saturday. The draw is the second-straight to open the CAC season for the Saints and the third consecutive double-overtime league opener.
An extremely even, back-and-forth affair turned in the Saints (1-3-2, 0-0-1 CAC) favor late in the first half. With just over two minutes to play in the period, freshman George Delgado took a slide pass from senior Kjell Crooke through the middle of the defense and hit his shot far left post to take a 1-0 lead.
With the score even, both squads battled to extra frame and into a second overtime period. The Saints had the best opportunity to put the game away on a golden goal with 2:45 remaining, but the Spartans keeper deflected a rocket shot by Delgado off the crossbar to salvage the tie.
Madigan earned two saves in the draw to move to 1-2-2 on the season in goal.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday at home against Shenandoah in non-conference play.
