Lake Forest Runs Away From Eureka, 6-0
EUREKA, Ill. – Clinging to a 1-0 advantage at halftime, Lake Forest put up five goals in the final 45 minutes of Saturday's non-conference match to break away for a 6-0 victory over the Eureka College men's soccer team at Traister Field.
Stephen Egan hit the back of the net in the sixth minute to give the Foresters (7-0-0) an early 1-0 lead, but the strike proved to be the only offense of the first half. The Eureka (1-4-0) defense was solid during the first 45 minutes, and sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Mumm (Monticello, Ill./Monticello H.S.) turned aside nine shots on target from the visitors.
Lake Forest opened the floodgates in the second half, as Nicholas Kliminski's goal in the 48th minute sparked a five-goal outburst in a stretch of 32-minutes, 9-seconds. Egan, who had the match's only multi-goal performance, scored again in the 60th minute for a 3-0 advantage.
Eureka junior Kyle Oyer (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) led the Eureka offense with a career-high two shots on goal. Mumm made 15 stops, falling one short of his career-best. Lake Forest, who carried a perfect record into Saturday outshot the Red Devils for the match, 30-8.
The Red Devils will return to the pitch next Saturday when Eureka opens the 8-match St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule at Fontbonne. Kickoff against the Griffins in the St. Louis suburb of Clayton, Mo. is scheduled for 8 p.m.
