Emory Men’s Soccer Falls to Guilford 3-0
Emory University's three-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday afternoon, as the men's soccer team fell 3-0 to Guilford College at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.
After neither team managed to put a goal on the board in the first half, Guilford's Greg Carnovale broke the scoreless tie in the 61st minute, heading in a 30-yard lob pass from Tamer El-Amoor in front of the net for his second goal of the season.
The Quakers extended their lead in the 69th minute, as Freddy Gomez struck for an unassisted goal, his fourth of the year. With the Eagles defense pulled up on the attack in the 86th minute, Gomez picked up his second goal of the game and fifth of the season, scoring off a pass from Eto'O Kemda-Kemstop.
Emory once again had the majority of the opportunities during the game, despite not being able to put a goal on the board. The Eagles took 25 shots during the contest, compared to just nine taken by the Quakers. Emory also held a narrow edge in shots on goal (7-5), and took nine corner kicks to Guilford's two.
Junior goalkeeper Alex Wong made two saves in the loss, falling to 3-1-0 on the season.
With the loss, Emory fell to 3-4-0 on the season, while Guilford improved to 3-3-1 on the campaign with the victory. The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, September 24th, wrapping up their six-game home stand against Berry College at 1:30 PM, as part of the University's homecoming festivities.

The Emory defense's scoreless minutes streak came to a close in the second half after 308 minutes and eight seconds of play… The Eagles have now outshot the opposing team in all seven games this season, and held an advantage in shots on goal in six of the seven contests… Senior Zach Samuels led all Emory players with seven shots, one of which was on goal… Freshmen Zachary Rosenberg and Dylan Price, and senior Kamron Zia each took three shots… Rosenberg was the only Emory player with multiple shots on goal in the game with a pair… The Eagles are now 3-2-0 on their current home stand with one game remaining.
