Oeswein Has a Hat Trick in Saints' 5-0 Win Over Hanover
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Senior midfielder Alex Oeswein (Louisville, Ky./Male) recorded a hat trick to lead the Thomas More College men's soccer team to a 5-0 shutout win over Hanover College today (Sunday, September 18, 2011) in a non-conference match at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 6-0 and with the loss, the Panthers fall to 1-5.
Oeswein gave the Saints an early 1-0 when he scored off a cross from senior forward Ricky Barria (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) at the 6:56 mark. Thomas More increased the lead to 2-0 at the 19:28 mark when junior defender Jacob Waldrop (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) found the back of the net. The Saints extended the lead to 3-0 at halftime when Oeswein scored off an assist from senior defender Keith Kreidenweis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) at the 28:20 mark.
In the second half, freshman forward Alec Robbins (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) scored unassisted at the 64:38 mark to increase the lead to 4-0. Oeswein complete his hat trick at the 75:24 mark for the final score of 5-0.
Senior goalkeeper Zack Lawson (Frankfort, Ky./Frankfort) improved his record to 6-0 as he played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves.
The Saints out-shot the Panthers, 21-6, including 12-4 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 9-1.
Thomas More returns to action on Tuesday (September 20) when it travels to Danville, Kentucky for a non-conference match with Centre College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
