Bonfini, Bryant, Shadoan Lift Ohio Wesleyan over Ohio Northern

Senior forward Matt Bonfini and senior forward Tyler Bryant scored first-half goals and sophomore midfielder Matt Shadoan provided some insurance down the stretch as seventh-ranked Ohio Wesleyan defeated Ohio Northern, 3-1, on Wednesday in Ada.

The Bishops took the lead midway through the first half when Bonfini and senior forward Travis Wall ran a give-and-go inside the penalty area, with Bonfini taking the return pass and zipping a shot past Ohio Northern keeper Mac Church.

Bryant made it 2-0 with exactly 7 minutes left in the half, jumping on the rebound of Church's save of a shot by sophomore back Ben Witkoff and tapping the ball into the unprotected goal.

The Polar Bears closed to within 2-1 with 8:26 left in regulation time when Christian Huelsman took a through ball and found the corner of the Bishop net, with Nathan Bascom and Craig Sumner credited with assists on the play.

Ohio Wesleyan wasted little time in responding, however, as Wall and Shadoan ran a give-and-go inside the box, with Shadoan finishing the play less than 2 minutes later.

Junior Paul Hendricks had 5 saves in going the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan goal. Church finished with 3 saves in the Polar Bear goal.
