Glavan Helps Men's Soccer Rally Past York, 2-1

More news about: Scranton men's team

YORK, Pa. – Senior forward Nick Glavan (East Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) came off the bench to score a goal and add an assist, and freshman goalie Tomasz Marczak (Sharon, Mass./Sharon) made four saves in his first career start as The University of Scranton men's soccer team rallied past York College (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon.

After the Royals (3-4-2) trailed, 1-0, at halftime, Glavan knotted the score in the 70th minute when he picked up a loose ball and banked a shot off the left post for an unassisted goal. The goal was Glavan's first of the season and fourth of his career.

Just over seven minutes later, Glavan made a beautiful feed to sophomore midfielder Jimmy Peeler (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove), whose header found the mark to give Scranton a 2-0 lead. The goal was the first of Peeler's career.

After York (3-3-3) took the lead at the 10:43 mark, the Scranton defense tightened up and Marczak keyed the comeback with four second-half saves, including one in the 88th minute, to deny the Spartans.

The victory is the first for Scranton in four tries against York. The Spartans had outscored the Royals, 13-2, in the three previous matchups, all victories by York.

Scranton returns to action on Saturday when Merchant Marine comes to town for a Landmark Conference match at 1 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
