Wall Lifts Ohio Wesleyan Over Case Reserve
Senior forward Travis Wall scored a pair of second-half goals as sixth-ranked Ohio Wesleyan wiped out a 1-0 deficit to take a 2-1 non-conference win over Case Reserve on Wednesday in Cleveland.
The Bishops enjoyed the edge in play in the first half, outshooting the Spartans, 5-1, in the period. Wall had a pair of shots stopped by CWRU keeper Ben Yabrow during the first 10 minutes of play.
Case Reserve took the lead early in the second half, with Eric Erb scoring in the 56th minute, with Vinny Bell and Kostis Theoharides credited with assists on the play.
Ohio Wesleyan answered in the 61st minute when senior midfielder Dylan Stone brought the ball upfield and crossed to Wall, who tapped the ball into the Spartan goal.
Wall gave the Bishops the lead in the 85th minute, finishing the play inside the penalty area after senior forward Matt Bonfini served the ball into the box.
CWRU had a couple of chances to even the game, but Dominic Carusone's shot was snared by Bishop keeper Paul Hendricks in the 86th minute, and Ross Twanmoh's shot off the ensuing corner kick was high.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Case Reserve, 11-9. Hendricks finished with 4 saves in going the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan goal. Yabrow finished with 3 saves in the Spartan goal.
