Allegheny Dominates in Shutout Victory

More news about: Allegheny men's team

WOOSTER, Ohio - Allegheny came into Wednesday night's contest against Wooster, looking for its first ten win season since 2007. From the opening kickoff, the Gators looked like a team on a mission, as they would handle the Fighting Scots en route to a dominating 2-0 victory.

On a wet and dreary day, Allegheny's offense would strike early and often. The scoring was opened by junior Tyler Danzey who collected a cross from sophomore Andrew Miller to put the Gators up 1-0 in the 22 minute.

With the lead in hand, Allegheny would put the Fighting Scots on their heels. Peppering them with shots until they finally broke through again with just three minutes left in the first half. Freshman Axel Monzon played a prefect cross to over a defenders head to sophomore Brian Graham for his third goal of the season to give Allegheny a two goal cushion.

The Gators would continue putting pressure on the Wooster back line in the second half, nearly increasing their lead when Miller ripped a shot off the post early in the second half. Allegheny again had a prime opportunity to go up 3-0, but Danzey couldn't connect off a scramble in front of the Wooster goal, and the lead would stay at two.

Sophomore John Lichina would make an impressive save on Matt Naticchia in the 89 minute to preserve his fifth shutout of the season, as Allegheny would improve to 10-3-0 overall, and 3-1-0 in NCAC play.

Allegheny would end the game out shooting the Fighting Scots 21-5 overall, and 11-2 on goal. The Gators are off until Saturday, October 15, when they will host NCAC foe Kenyon at 5:00 pm.
