Eureka's Cody Halstead Earns Third Weekly SLIAC Honor

More news about: Eureka men's team

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – For the second time this season and the third time in his career, Eureka College senior forward Cody Halstead (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods H.S./Illinois Central) has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office late Monday night.  Halstead scored two goals to go along with an assist in a pair of league matches last week at Traister Field.

Halstead successfully converted an 81st-minute penalty kick in last Wednesday's SLIAC contest against Blackburn.  Three days later at Traister Field against Spalding, Halstead assisted on a sixth-minute strike from senior Richie Gregory (Champaign, Ill./Judah Christian H.S.) before netting match-winner in the 41st minute.  Halstead's goal against the Golden Eagles, his seventh of the season, ignited a three-goal outburst by the Red Devils in the final five minutes of the first half in Eureka's 4-1 victory.

The two goals last week from Halstead bumped his Eureka career total to 17, matching former teammate David Crady (2008-10) for second place on the all-time Eureka list.  He has also picked up three assists in 2011, running his career total to 10 for third place all-time at Eureka.  Monday's announcement marked Halstead's third career SLIAC Player of the Week award.  He previously earned the honor on Sept. 7, 2010 and Sept. 13, 2011.

Only two matches remain in 2011 for Halstead and the Red Devils.  Eureka will travel to Jacksonville, Ill. this Wednesday for a 3 p.m. SLIAC kickoff against MacMurray before hosting its annual Senior Day on Saturday at Traister Field versus Westminster at 3 p.m.
