Brockport Falls to Kean in Close 1-0 Game
Junior Brian Duffy (Hilton, NY/Hilton) had the best chance to score for The College at Brockport Men's Soccer team but a long pass on an offensive rush by Kean University proved to be the difference in a 1-0 loss Saturday in the second game of the weekend for the Golden Eagles at the Stevens Tech. Cup Tournament at Stevens Tech. in Hoboken, NJ.
Brockport (3-2) had a chance to score in the first half when a Bobby Ross (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) shot rang off the cross bar but the ensuing offensive rush for Kean University resulted in the only goal of the game.
Late in the second half, Brockport had a chance to tie the game as Duffy moved into the 18-yard box and found himself in a one-on-one situation with the Kean goalie. After Duffy fired a shot toward the lower corner, the goalie made a diving save to preserve the lead.
"We had some chances to score but in the end we were just not able to finish those chances," said head coach Gary LaPietra. "Overall, I thought we played well with the long weekend after a late game Friday night, maybe we were not as fresh as we should have been for Saturday."
Senior Kyle Sauln (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) made five saves in the Brockport goal.
