MADISON, Wis. – Edgewood College senior goalkeeper Kyle Koenig has been voted to the Capital One Academic All-District team. Koenig started 12 matches for the Eagles this season and recorded a 5-5-2 record with five shutouts. He concluded his collegiate career with 106 saves, which ranks seventh in school history, and nine career shutouts which puts him sixth all-time.
The crowning moment of his season, was likely on October 11. Koenig made eight saves and recorded a 2-0 shutout victory on the road over then-second place MSOE. Koenig is an Elementary Education major who maintains a 3.91 grade point average.
With his selection, Koenig now becomes eligible for the Capital One Academic All-American team. Three previous Edgewood College men's soccer players, Tyler Duellman (2009, first team) Jerrid Dokey (2009, second team) and Dan Butz (2004, third team), have received Academic All-American honors in the past.
The membership of the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) has nominated and voted for the Capital One Academic All-District and All-American teams each year since the 1950's. This year is the first time NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA schools have been evaluated in their own separate divisions.
